Overview
Getting a fast, helpful response from your host starts with how you write your message. This guide covers practical tips for communicating effectively through Valzotra so your host can help you as quickly as possible.
How it works
Include the right details
When you message your host about a question or issue, include enough context so they can help without needing to ask follow-up questions:
- What happened — Describe the situation clearly. Instead of "something is broken," say "the kitchen faucet is dripping when turned off."
- Where — Specify the room or area if relevant.
- When — Note when the issue started or when you need something by.
- What you've tried — If you already attempted a fix (like resetting a breaker), mention it so your host does not suggest the same thing.
When to message
Your host is most likely to respond quickly during normal business hours. For non-urgent questions, sending a message during the day gives your host the best chance to reply promptly.
For time-sensitive situations:
- Urgent issues (no water, no heat, locked out) — Message immediately regardless of the time. Your host may have emergency contacts listed in the arrival guide or property info.
- General questions (restaurant recommendations, how to use an appliance) — These can wait for a convenient time.
- Pre-arrival questions — Send these at least a day before check-in so your host has time to respond.
Send photos when helpful
If you are reporting an issue, a photo can save several rounds of back-and-forth. For example:
- A photo of a stain or damage so your host can see the severity.
- A photo of an appliance panel if you are unsure which button to press.
- A photo of an error message on a smart device.
To attach a photo, use the attachment option in the message compose area. Photos upload directly to the conversation thread and your host sees them immediately.
Keep it specific
One clear topic per message gets faster results than a long message covering multiple unrelated subjects. If you have two separate questions — say, about checkout time and a broken lamp — consider sending them as two messages so your host can address each one.
Check the property info first
Before messaging your host, check the Property Info section and the Arrival Guide. Many common questions — Wi-Fi passwords, trash schedules, parking instructions, appliance guides — are already answered there.
FAQ
How quickly will my host respond? Response times vary by host. Most hosts respond within a few hours during the day. For urgent issues, check whether your host has provided a phone number or emergency contact in the property info.
Can I edit or delete a message after sending it? No. Once a message is sent, it cannot be edited or deleted. Double-check your message before sending.
Is there a character limit on messages? There is no strict character limit, but shorter, focused messages tend to get faster and more helpful responses.
Can I message my host before my stay starts? Yes. You can send messages as soon as you accept the invitation. This is a good time to ask about early check-in, special requests, or directions.
What if my host hasn't responded to an urgent issue? Check the arrival guide and property info for an emergency phone number or alternative contact. If the issue affects your safety (gas smell, flooding, break-in), contact local emergency services first.
