Overview
You can create tasks from the Tasks overview page or from the Tasks panel on a property detail page. Each task belongs to a single property, has a category and priority, and starts with at least one sub-task. You can also set tasks to recur on a schedule so they are created automatically at regular intervals.
How it works
Creating from the Tasks overview page
- Navigate to Tasks from the sidebar and click New Task.
- Select a property from the property selector dropdown. Every task belongs to a single property.
- Fill in the required and optional fields:
- Title -- a short name for the task (e.g., "Replace HVAC filter" or "Order new patio furniture").
- Description -- optional details or notes about the work.
- Category -- choose from Maintenance, Landscaping, Cleaning, Inspection, Safety, Supplies, or General.
- Priority -- Low, Medium, High, or Urgent.
- Due date -- optional target completion date.
- First task -- this field is pre-filled from the title. It becomes the first checkable sub-task. You can edit it to be more specific (e.g., if the title is "HVAC Maintenance," the first sub-task might be "Replace filter in upstairs unit").
- Click Create.
When you create a task, the system automatically creates the first sub-task from the title or from the first task field. Every task always has at least one sub-task.
Creating from a property detail page
- Open a property from the sidebar and navigate to the Tasks panel.
- Click New Task.
- The property is already selected for you. Fill in the remaining fields (title, category, priority, due date, first task) and click Create.
This is the faster option when you are already looking at a specific property.
Recurring tasks
Tasks can be set to recur on a schedule. When creating a task, toggle the recurring option and choose an interval:
- Weekly
- Every 2 weeks
- Monthly
- Every 3 months
- Every 6 months
- Yearly
- Custom (every N days)
Recurring tasks are managed separately from one-off tasks and generate new instances on their schedule. Each generated instance is an independent task with its own sub-tasks and completion tracking.
Limits & requirements
- Only owners, admins, and team members with a manager property role can create tasks.
- Every task must have a title, a property, and a category.
- The first sub-task is created automatically -- you cannot create a task with zero sub-tasks.
- Tasks are available on all paid plans (Comply, Host, and Portfolio).
- An active paid subscription is required to create tasks.
- There is no limit on the number of tasks per property.
FAQ
Can I create a task without a due date? Yes. The due date is optional. Tasks without a due date will not appear in urgency-based filters (Overdue, Due Today, Due Tomorrow) but will still appear in status and category filters.
Can I create the same task on multiple properties at once? Yes. The bulk creation feature lets you select multiple properties and create the same task on all of them in one action. Each property gets its own independent copy.
What happens when a recurring task generates a new instance? A new task is created with the same title, description, category, priority, and sub-task structure as the original. The new instance starts with all sub-tasks unchecked and its own independent due date.
Can cleaners create tasks? No. Only owners, admins, and team members with a manager property role can create tasks. Cleaners and maintenance members can view and complete tasks assigned to them.
